3 DAY DESERT TOUR CAMEL TREKKING

3 DAY DESERT TOUR CAMEL TREKKING

A camel trek in the Sahara Desert will give you a glimpse into the lives of camel caravans that used to travel on centuries-old routes in search of cool oases, streams of water, and salt and spice trade. The salt caravans traveled from near Marrakech to Timbuktu, bringing gold, silver, textiles, spices, and slaves with them. The trek was often dangerous, and many people did not make it back. Some of the older nomads can retell tales of trips through the dunes to distant lands and back from their own lives. Perhaps the best way to appreciate the calm of the desert and take a minute to appreciate the lifestyle of the nomads of this region is to be in the middle of the dunes under a nomadic tent.

ITINERARY OF: 3 DAY DESERT TOUR CAMEL TREKKING

3-DAY DESERT TOUR CAMEL TREKKING begins after a leisurely lunch, depending on when you arrive in Merzouga. Camels were laden with food, blankets, and everything we’d need for our excursion, which could take us over the desert by ourselves. This journey will lead us to a small dunes-hidden paradise where we will spend the night. We may be able to enjoy a starry night if we are fortunate and the weather cooperates. Light a fire on the first night of the month, after a decent dinner.

We’ll have an honest breakfast in the morning and then travel for about two hours to reach our next destination. We’ll take a half-hour break for lunch under the shade of a Tamarin, a common desert tree. After lunch, we’ll thank our lucky stars for having a Tuareg family with whom we’ll spend the night and converse.

Have breakfast with the family the next morning, then we’ll travel to a different little oasis in the desert, where the next camp will be occupied by a nomadic Berber family. Returning to the hostel or village.

If you had to choose one special destination that embodies the magic of Morocco; it would almost certainly be the mystical Sahara Desert. Its images of palm encircled refreshing desert oases, vast undulating curvaceous golden sands, and of course the incredible spectacular star-filled sky. If any visitor to Morocco really wants to lose themselves and get away from it all, there is no more extreme way to do so than to set off across the great Sahara Desert on the back of a camel with your hair wrapped in an indigo turban.

The camel, often known as the ship of the desert or the original desert 4×4, is without a doubt the centerpiece of the desert. Camels can survive ten times longer without water than any other animal, allowing them to trek the vast desert for days without drinking. They’re also beasts of burden, capable of transporting your water as well as all of the necessary equipment and supplies.
