ITINERARY OF: AFFORDABLE 8 DAYS TOUR FROM MARRAKECH TO MERZOUGA DESERT

Pick up from the airport at your scheduled arrival time and transfer to the Riad in the medina, Marrakech’s historical heart, just two minutes’ walk from the famed Jamaa El Fna square.

The best option in the day is to explore the medina on your own, making your way to the square, which is bustling with narrators, jugglers, and diviners in the evening. Snake charmers, dancers, tooth removers, and other such professions exist. In the Riad for the night.

Pick up at 8.30 a.m. and drive to Ouarzazate, passing through the High Atlas Mountains. On our way, we’ll pass across Tizi Ntichka pass, our country’s highest peak at 2.260 meters. We’ll stop at views along the road to take pictures of the Berber communities and enjoy the gorgeous scenery.

After that, we’ll travel a little road to Telouat Kasbah. Following your visit to the kasbah, you will have free time to sample some local cuisine. In the afternoon, we’ll travel via the Ounila valley, passing little berber towns and families living in adobe houses tucked away in the mountains, to Ait Ben Haddou’s Kasbah (fortified village), where we’ll visit the famed Kasbah (declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986).

Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, Sahara with Penélope Cruz, and others have all been filmed on this magnificent stage. We’ll go to Ouarzazate, widely known as “The Gate of the Desert,” after touring the kasbah. Dinner will be served at the hotel where we will be staying the night.

After breakfast, we’ll travel to the Draa Valley, where you can observe one of Morocco’s longest rivers. We stop along the way to take pictures and admire the magnificent kasbahs and berber settlements that dot the road, as well as the natural beauty of the Draa valley.

We’ll have some free time in Alnif for lunch before travelling two hours to the magnificent Merzouga dunes. “Powdery sand dune desert.” We’ll swap out our motorized transportation for an animal-drawn vehicle to travel deep into the desert.

You’ll stop for lunch halfway through the journey at Midelt, a town noted for its fossils and rocks. A hot shower or a dip in the pool (depending on the weather) at the Kasbah in Merzouga will be a welcome relief after a long journey. Dinner will be provided at the Kasbah.

When we get at the camp, we sleep in camel-hair tents, similar to those used by nomad families. Dinner and the night in the berber tent under the stars.

After watching the sunrise in the desert and having breakfast, we return to Merzouga on camels and begin our journey. Then we’ll skirt the Erg Chebbi, a vast stretch of sandy desert where we’ll locate Morocco’s Big Dune, which stands at more than 250 meters high.

The route then continues along the road that was once utilized for the “Paris – Dakar” race and terminates in the mountains that border Algelria. Stopping in Tissardmin oasis, where we can still see fossil quarries, we continue on a route where we can observe nomad settlements and learn about their secrets and customs. The next stop will be at a lookout point to take in the beauty of Erg Chebbi.

We’ll then arrive at Khamilia Village, which is originally from Mali…, where we’ll enjoy a peaceful cup of tea while listening to a concert of Gnawa spiritual music. Transfer to your hotel and spend the afternoon exploring the town or watching the sunset from the dunes close to the hotel. In the motel for dinner and the night.

After breakfast, we leave the desert for Rissani, where we’ll visit the marketplace (market days: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday), and then on to Erfoud, where we’ll see the fossilized marble producers before heading to the Touroug and Tinjdad palm plantations.

We’ll arrive in the Todra Gorges, one of the nicest sites in the High Atlas, an hour later. The river’s passage has carved out the cliff-sided canyon, which is famous among climbers because of its beauty and high rock sides.

Free time to eat lunch in this beautiful location. A brief walk through the gorges is highly recommended to fully enjoy the landscape’s splendor.

We’ll proceed to the Dadès valley, also known as the fig valley, in the afternoon, passing through Boumalne Dadés and stopping at the “monkey legs.” The Dades Valley is where you’ll spend the night.

After breakfast, we may take in one of the best views of the Dadès valley from a strategic lookout in the mountains, where we can take in a large number of kasbahs and their aesthetic features.

Then we travel along a route lined with other tourist-oriented kasbahs. After a few stops to take in the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” We’ll go to Ouarzazate via the Roses Valley and the large Skoura palm forest, stopping at the Kasbah of Taourirt, the historic residence of the Glaoui or Marrakech pasha.

We can also go to the cinema studios and the tue cinema museum if you’re interested. We begin our journey back to Marrakech in the afternoon, passing through the mountain port of Tizi Ntichka and stopping for photos. We now leave the moonscape behind to arrive at a colorful scene.

We’ll arrive in Marrakech about 6 p.m. and spend the night in a hotel.

A morning excursion to Marrakech’s Medina with a local guide.

We’ll begin by viewing the enormous wall that surrounds the Medina, as well as the Koutoubia Minaret, which is a replica of the one in Seville’s Giralda. Then we’ll go to the Saadines Tomb, Bahia Palace, Majorelle Gardens, and finally the Jamaa El Fna Square, which has an entirely different atmosphere than at night.

Free time in the evening to exercise your haggling skills in the souk or explore the Medina’s hidden gems. The riad is where you will be staying.
